Since I added aftermarket speakers to the back of my crew cab F350 they sounds muffled. Ive tried switching the wires which didn’t appear to make a difference. When they were stock i dont remember them being as quiet as they are. They are blaupukt 6x8, my stereo is a Kenwood KDC-355U. Anyone have any insite on what could be going on or what to check? Would an amp make things better? I have no clue abut anything stereo past ho to hook up the head unit itself so dumb it down however needed. Thanks
Since the sound is muffled it makes me think you are not getting mid to high frequencies to the 6x8's, which could be a setting in the radio. Here is the way I would start to tackle it. Pulling the power and factory resetting it will blow any EQ settings out.
If you don't want to pull the power, you can check the settings on the radio(bass, treble, EQ, etc) and ensure they are not only sending lower frequencies to them. Built in EQ settings can change the way things sound.
Next would be to ensure your positive goes to positive and neg to neg. If they are out of phase it will affect the sound. I assume this is what you meant when you switched the wires.
The next thing I would do is rule out the wiring altogether. Temporarily run a speaker wire from the deck to the speaker and see if it changes. If you have aftermarket radio and speakers it is a good idea to bypass the factory wiring anyhow.
An amp will always make things louder. Head units (yours included) usually only put out 22 watts, which only goes so far.
Let me know if any of those work, if not we'll see what else we can come up with.
I’ll go back through the settings tonight and see if that fixes anything. I know I messed with the setting last weekend and after a while I got it to sound louder but only in the front. You would be correct in assuming that by switching wires I was swapping wires from the ground to power and opposite, neither seemed to sound any better and the back is definitely quieter than the front when I mess with the fader setting from front only to equal to rear only. When I pull the head unit to run a new wire direct to the speaker I’ll see what happens.
The amp making it louder was my understanding after some reading. The head u it is good for 22 watt x 4 with the max of 50 x 4. My rear speakers are 300 watt 4 channel. If I can get them sounding good I’ll buy the same ones for front doors
