Did I Mess Up?

The instructions show an amplifier going into the crossover, but I just hooked them up without an amp (speaker wires from stock head unit into crossover) and they sound like crap. There are no RCA jacks on these and I believe they are rated at 4 ohms, 120 watts continuous 240 max, 25-35 hz. PLEASE HELP
The factory head unit provides no where NEAR enough power to get those speakers to sound good. You will definately need a seperate amplifier or at the *minmum*, a new higher powered head unit. Any 2 channel amp rated at 35watts RMS X2 or higher will get the job done. Obviously, some sound better than others.
Most amplifiers have a "speaker level input" these days, which means that you can run the old speaker wires directly to your new amp, and connect them into that input( no RCA's needed).
Good Luck !!
you can try an amp, to get a cleaner signal, you can try a new cd play, but the best you can do is make the signal clear all the way to the speakers. but thats not to say the speakers wont F up the sound reproduction.
