Hello folks, I have a stock 1997 F250. I use it as a farm truck and I have a 8.5 ft snow plow for the winter. The transmission is locking up and killing the engine sometimes when put in reverse. Not sure what that's about. I was going to order a stage 1 long block but that's too pricey right now with a 7800 dollar price tag. Instead I'm going to be upgrading the injectors to 180cc with 30 percent nozzles and I went with a stage 1 transmission which will hold upto 450hp. I want to intercool it but can I put a intercooler from a 99 and above super duty on this truck or just speed the 900 bucks to buy one made for the OBS from FullForce diesel? Thanks for any help.
If you do a search there are a number of threads on how to make your own. Some have taken exhaust tubing, cut and welded to make the plenum spider. If you can find the plenum spider from an early 99 superduty, you can use that, but not later superdutys. You can use the piping from a superduty but you need to modify them some. You need to mount the intercooler on the radiator core support. I believe you need to bend the hood release handle some for it to fit. I believe there are some other detail stuff that others can add.
I'm not sure why anyone had to fab up the tubing. I bought the intercooler spider and tubing or ducting and bolted it all right on, except for the intercooler I had to fab up the mounts.
