were you able to determine a cause of initial failure ? bearing failure or chain slap the case ?

No unfortunately. All the bearings that were still around to be inspected were all relatively okay. They were a little gritty but I suspect that was from post-tcase explosion contamination. The bearings that were in the portion of the tcase that exploded have all bounced off into the wilderness. As far as the chain goes, I can't tell if it has been stretched beyond spec.

Nutty, I expected more carnage on the innards....unless....any chance something on the road whacked the case and it wasn't something inside that caused it to grenade?

No way to know I'm afraid. Looks like all the energy was traveling outwards from the tcase judging by the marks around the area though.
