I have been driving Lariats for quite a few years and came up to a Raptor at a red light today. Might get one next time. So is there a big difference between them other than the grille and badging and is a Raptor considered a higher or lower model than the average Lariat?
The biggest difference between the F150 (any trim) and the Raptor are mechanical. STX/XLT/Lariat/Platinum etc are all just trim levels on the standard F150 that you can pick as your wallet allows. Raptor is a very different vehicle. Suspension, brakes, wider body etc. They ride much smoother over rough roads, but are worse for towing and hauling because of that suspension. There's cosmetic differences too, I guess, but those are (to me) minor.
Myself, I'd like one of each, but I couldn't live with a raptor as my daily driver because of how wide it is. I think the track is 7" wider and the body is 8" wider, although if it matters to you then double-check my memory on that.

The fenders flare out 3" wider on each side so that part is only 6" wider. The mirrors stick out further than the fenders. The overall width from the outside of the mirrors is the same as other F150s with regular mirrors, so technically it's not wider than other F150s. An F150 with tow mirrors is wider than a Raptor.

I guess there's lot of ways to measure "width" on these trucks, but the wheels are further apart, and the body is wider, so to my simple mind, that's "wider".
Nothing compares to a Raptor when it comes to off-road capability. It's almost possible to take a stock Raptor and run Baja without modification (but I wouldn't do it). You're going to spend about $15,000 more on a Raptor, but it will be more unique. The Lariat will tow more. I bet a Raptor is a b***h to park at Home Depot. I like the looks of the Raptor more.

You might want to spend some time googling and researching the Raptor if you really don’t know what it is....particularly if you are thinking of buying one and can’t discern the difference between it and a Lariat.
Certainly, they are different enough that an informed buyer would have a preference one way or another. There are lots of articles about the Raptor.....
