That is a personal choice. I agonized over every choice in my 2017 build. I wanted the leather seats and also looked at the additional features included in the Lariat trim and ordered it. But did not go to the Lariat Ultimate. I could have afforded whatever I wanted. I also looked at the Platinum trim and did not see value in going that far either. Good luck.
Like brian said, personal choice. I have the Lariat Ultimate. But some of the things like adaptive cruise, I NEVER use.
But I did have several things I insisted on and after researching, I found my truck 500 miles away so I went to get it. Take the unnecessary to get the necessary.
I would have gone XLT if I could have gotten the dual zone climate control, that was the one major thing I wanted in my new truck when I was looking, everything else that came along with the Lariat package was just extra for me that I could have lived without. That one option by itself was worth any extra sticker price I had to pay as I’m always running my side at least 5 degrees cooler than my wife’s side of the truck. After having the truck for a year now I will say the cooled seat option was also well worth the extra as well because I always have it on to help with the temperature difference.
I would buy a XLT if I could get black cloth and not the dirty looking gray. Also most XLTs you are forced to get the gaudy chrome package if you want certain options.
Not sure why Ford engineers seem to think all the trim on a truck has to be chrome. I guess they must sell since 9 out of 10 trucks on my dealers lot has the chrome package.
Does the cloth on the xlt stain easily? I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with similar cloth and it seemed like even spilling water on the seats stained them.
I ordered a Lariat Value package F250 this time over F150 XLT last time mainly for believe it or not , Home Link gate / garage door opener not available on XLT. I have a gate and garage door to come home to every day, tired of 2 openers hanging on visor when I want to pull it down. I am sure it could be added but I want my probably last new truck to be ordered like I want it. The under rear seat storage box was also a plus. Have no desire for KR, Platinum, or Limited and would not have a sun roof if they were free.
The gray cloth was not a big deal as I always put covers on the front seats anyway. My 2006 F350 Lariat was sold with the leather looking like new. I sold a DRW 350 Lariat and XLT F150 to buy the new one.
On order truck is finally "In Production" status with delivery 7/3 or sooner.
They have all these options to satisfy every buyer. This time I ordered EXACTLY what I wanted.....
6.2 L Gas 3.73 4x4 Crew FX4 6.75 bed. Black / Black, Ultimate Tow Package, BLIS, Gooseneck Pkg, Spray In Liner, wheel well liners F&R, HD Alternator, Garage Door Opener, extended running boards. List was $60,525.
No chrome package, no 20" wheels, no Navigation which seemed to be on every lot truck out there. I also could not justify a $8900 add for diesel. Been there done that, just don't tow enough now days.
Sounds like a great truck....I ordered and now have a 2017 F350 LBCC Lariat Value in ruby red 6.2L 3.73 4x4 with 360 Camera, upfitter switches, 5th wheel prep, trailer camera package, wheel well liners, Extra Extra HD alt, dual batteries, floor mats, navigation and power running boards. A very similar build to yours. I am sure you will love it. I added Line-X when I got the truck. My MSRP was $75000 Cdn and my bill was $62000 Cdn.
Just picked mine up Saturday, After 8-9 months, home work / wait time. i opted for the lariat with the value package, because i did not want the adaptive steering, the dual alternators or the adaptive braking. I wanted a very nice truck, but did not want to add a lot more maintenance items, and cost on, than is already there. Have your dealer print you out he 60 or so pages of the actual order, VERRRRY HELPFUL, it really breaks the packages down with what comes with each one. i started with the 2017, then went back in and had them reprint me the 2018. Actually i had them reprint the 2017 twice, because i changed from a f350 to a f450 and all my notes and scribble was confusing. very pleased with what "i " wanted. I spent hours specing out this truck, wait till you see the order sheets, the order sheets give you way much more than the book or the salesman can, Till i was done, i knew more than the salesman, FACT, The salesman was very helpful, but he deals with so many different vehicles, he cannot know everything! Good luck!!!!
I really enjoy my Lariat Value Package.
In my opinion it strikes a very good balance between functionality and luxury.
I was going to order a XLT loaded, however we found amy lariat on the lot and my wife said "Get that one"
I did, and it was a great choice. Heated / cooled seats, and dual climate control were worth it all by them selves.
My truck is Magnetic, and the color matched mirror caps look great with the Magnetic painted 20 inch wheels.
I am so pleased i ended up with this truck.
With this generation of Super Duty, the XLT is more generous on at least availability of desirable options compared to the previous generation. I've had XLT, Lariat, Lariat Ultimate, and King Ranch trucks. This time I went for an XLT Premium. I was able to get navigation and heated front seats which I wanted. I had a 2017 350 dually Lariat Ultimate with nearly every possible option and found a lot of it to be fluff. I miss the ambient interior lighting that comes with the Ultimate package. My biggest disappointment with the XLT is the lack of an auto-dimming mirror, something the previous generation XLT truck included. The Sony audio in the Lariat was not good, possibly even worse than the standard XLT Premium audio.
XLT even lets you have the twin-panel panoramic moonroof if you want it. I ordered the full center console like the Lariat+ models have; gives you rear heat/AC vents, plus a second 110V outlet, couple of USB ports and another 12V.
I think the "Camel" interior with tan cloth looks more upscale on the XLT than the gray. I replaced my gray cloth with Katzkin black leather for $558. In my opinion, it is better quality than the standard Lariat leather.
One minor thing the Lariat offers which I like is that each of the four round dials for radio volume and tuning, plus climate control, has a ring illuminated around it. It looks nicer than the XLT which only illuminates the symbol inside the dial. But otherwise, every single button on the XLT is illuminated as well as the Lariat.
Mine is a Lariat with the Value Package and then a lot of the extras from the Ultimate package bolted on. Love it. The extra bells and whistles are nice.
