I have a Firestick antenna mounted in a stakehole. Radio is the Cobra 75WXST. I like the Cobra a lot as I can disconnect it and store it when I do not run it, which is pretty much only when I am on the road. No real reason in the city, I have a portable HAM if I need to pick up weather band for city use.
I have my 102" steel whip mounted to the passenger frame rail between the cab and bed. The antenna whacks the cab every once in a while but no real paint damage yet.
My radio came with the 76 high boy I bought 4 years ago, works good but no clue what the range is on it.
hey buddy just get a tennis or hand ball poke a hole thru it and run it down your antenna so its between the bed and cab, thats what we used to do, then no more once in a while wacks.
All very nice installs. I ordered two Firestik II 3' black antennas, two Firestik medium springs, and two stake pocket mounts. I still have to get the coax, but that should be no big deal.
My truck is a manual so I have to be careful of exactly where I put the radio so that it doesn't interfere with the shifter, but I like the look of it mounted in/under the ashtray. And I'll mount a hanger for the microphone to the right of the gauge cluster where the push button 4wd buttons would be.

That's right where I have my mic mounted, works great. If you want more detailed pics of my ashtray mount just let me know. I pulled the ashtray and bracket out of the truck, then used 4 self-tapping screws to mount the CB bracket to the ashtray bracket, and then reinstalled it in the truck. Fits perfect and I have plenty of clearance for the shifter.

Got the radio installed today. I'm very happy with where it is. I still have to neaten up the wiring and install the antennas and coax. Big question- where did you guys run your coax into the cab?
cb
Ran the coax under the carpet on the driver's side to the door. Then to the back of the cab and through a plug in the floor to the antenna mounted on my toolbox
I got the antennas on and the coax run and hooked up. Running the coax neatly was a chore, I took out the seats and ran it under the carpet, and up.the middle of the bed, then ran the two cables separately out to the stake pockets. I'm glad I went with three foot antennas instead of four footers. I think they look great-
