Turn signal flasher is buzzing
My 97 F150 4X4 's turn signal flasher buzzes all the time except when brake is depressed or turn signals or hazard signals are active. The flasher is a 5 prong one. Anybody have any ideas on what to check?

Sorry that no one has responded until now.
Have you tried replacing the flasher relay?
It isnt really a flasher unit like older vehicles had.
I'd guess that there is an internal problem in it and it should be replaced.
Let us know what you find out.

I tried replacing the flasher unit and it still buzzes. It has 5 prongs and I was wondering what the voltage is supposed to be at each terminal, assuming that one is ground and so on. It buzzes so i assume it is getting some improper voltage all the time. The truck was just detailed and might have gotten some cleaner on some connection somewhere and caused corrosion.

The white with blue wire should have 12V with the ignition on, red with white should have 12V all the time, black is ground (check with an ohmmeter), light blue should have flashing 12V with the signals on, white with red should have flashing 12V with the hazards on.

Thanks for your help. That info led me to check the turn signal switch which had corrosion in it when I took it apart. I tried cleaning it but ended up having to replace it with a new switch from the dealer for $84 USD. Thank you again!

a lead
ok i was removing the entertainment area panel to look at the wiring harness for a new stereo, and after asembly the turn relay started buzzing , except when the signal , brake, or 4ways are on,even with the key off,( hope it doesnot start a fire ) the fix was to clean the large conector in the back of the dash heater control panel the one with the swing style locking latch, hope this helps someone.

your powers of observation surpass mine, but since people still drive this model truck and this thread still had no solid answers i thought i would pass on my experience with this particular subject.. and im glad to hear you can count to 11 ..
