7 pin trailer harness

Recently picked up a new trailer. It has dual axles and one axle has brakes. I want to tow with my truck but I do not have a 7 pin plug. A year ago I removed the 4 pin blade plug because it was in terrible shape. I am not affraid to splice in to my taillight harness if it is possible to make a 7 pin plug work. Does anyone here have a 7 pin plug on their dent? Does some one have a wiring diagram that I/we can follow? Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I have searched the site and the web with no real luck.

I installed a seven way plug on my 56 F100 years ago and found wiring diagrams on etrailer.com quite helpful.

Is the trailer already wired with a 7 flat pin large style male plug? If not, you can go with the much smaller older style 6 round pin connector and be just fine with trailer lighting and power to the one axle brakes. Do you have a brake controller in mind? Tekonsha has quality stuff. I have a 4,6, and 7 pin connector receivers on the blue truck...all PO installed, and he did a good clean job. Sorry I can not at the moment go look at it to get you some wiring help.

Might stop by about any good travel trailer/RV place they should have what you need. I have seen a plug (inline with the rear wiring harness) an play 4 pin before.

Yes Etrailer.com is a great vendor. Have used them numerous times over the years. Fast service/shipping, good prices, tutorials, and great variety of parts. They have brake controllers you will need and universal wiring kits that simplify install on older vehicles without factory wiring for the 7 pin connector.

Thanks guys! I will check out etrailers. I'm sure it's easier than I think. Mostly just wondering if it can be done. And yes, my trailer is already wired with the 7 pin male connection. Thanks again. When I do get the wiring harness, I will make a new thread going over the install.

SW,
Check out this link. You will need to splice in just downstream of connector 1002. http://fordification.net/tech/images...ster_7of10.png

The receptacle you purchase will have directions for what goes with each pin. They are standard orientation in the U.S.

Here's a pic of the ugly job the P.O did on mine. How are things up North in Silverdale?

Thanks a bunch for the link! Weather is finally getting good for tinkering outside now. And I can take out my new toy, which is the reason I bought a trailer in the first place.

4/7 pin

I installed a seven pin on my truck which also has a separate four pin attachment. I pull a variety of trailers and have found this very useful rather than having a whole handful of adapters.

I have figured out the route that I am going to take. It will be very easy to install. Not really sure if it is new thread worthy. This is the list of parts that I am going to use. All from Amazon.
