Well, the decision was made for me. The impossible happened and a low miles HDPP was traded in at my local dealer. It's a Shadow Black XL with center console, vinyl floors, full WeatherTech package, and Undercover tonneau and swing cases. I was working with my salesman for a new 2019 F150 HDPP and had leads on a couple. With the big incentives cooking currently I was ready to jump on a new truck when this one appeared. I am a happy camper.
The hippie state had nothing to with it, That is to much trailer for a 150 period.
Yeah, your so right. Thousand of miles towed in 10 months with no problems. then a high altitude thin air place while using the wrong fuel. Disregard the thin air and wrong fuel as any contributing factors.
every place i towed it I had plenty of power, no handling problems, no braking problems.
The variables were the altitude & fuel.
I have a 18 F350 Dually 6.7 now. Would rather tow the trailer with the F150HDPP.
Congrats! An XL with HDPP must have insane amounts of payload.
It has 250 lbs less than you'd think. The 2017s had 7600 GVWR instead of the 7850 lbs found on the 2018 and 2019 MY. My truck has 2254 payload, plenty for my needs. It's a big step up from the 1171 I had with the old Nissan. More would be nicer, sure, but I'm good with it.

I believe the 7600GVWR is bc your xl has the smaller wheels & tires. My 17HDPP XLT had the 18” wheels & had a 7850GVWR. All HDPPs have %10 thicker frame rails, HD axle, higher front spring rates, 3.73s. Everything is the same except the wheels.
I like your experience. I need to find a new F150 XLT crew cab 6.5 bed with HD Payload and 3.5L to get the payload/5th wheel tow capacity I need. You said that you knew how to find them on dealer lots. Help!

man, that’s awesome luck! I looked high and low for a HDPP f150 and ended up finding a good deal on a 250 instead. I was searching used, didn’t want the new truck pricing at the time I was looking. Totaled the 250 and fired the search up again. Again, found a deal on a 250 and am still driving it getting crappy gas mileage and dealing with the rougher ride. Tow like a dream but what I tow could have been managed behind a 150, just couldn’t find that HDPP equipped truck when I was looking.
