Hey all, its getting warm here in Commiefornia, and my A/C has a horrible odor. When I first turn it on it smells very strong like wet, cut grass, after it's been fermenting in the trash can for a few hot days. This is an XLT so it does not have a cabin air filter.
I'm sure this is some kind of moldy fungus growing in there somewhere, but, how the hell do i get rid of it????
Nextzett Klima Cleaner is what I have used and it works great. Comes with a long tube. I have used Nextzett cleaning products for years (used to be called Einszett). I purchased a few cans last spring on Amazon. Shoot it up the AC drain hose. Also, remove the blower motor resistor and shoot the foam in there. After sitting for a while, turn on the fan full blast. One can is enough to use on 2-3 cars. If your odor is very bad, I’d do a double or triple treatment, with a few hours between treatments.
The hose exits underneath the truck. This is why you see drips or small puddles under a car when the AC is running. If your doesn’t drip then your hose is clogged or fell off. The hose should be near the passenger side floorboard.

Today I got a chance to climb my fat a** under the truck and take a look. I assume the hose is connected to the drain pan internally, because all I see in a metal nub with a plastic insert poking thru the firewall. Is there something else that should be here?
The truck did leave a small puddle of water on the garage floor today when I got home (not very hot here today and the desert is not usually humid) that makes me think the drain is working. So, I got a thin piece of solid wire, ran it into the hole, and did not feel any restrictions, and no more water came out. I am not getting any moisture inside the passanger area.
But that smell, hits you like a slap in the face.......
Verify the drain hose isn't clogged. What you need to start doing is to turn the ac off a couple minutes before you are about to turn the truck off. This way you won't get condensation after the truck is shutoff and there won't be any stink. Works well , especially in humid areas.
