I can't find the evaporator drain on my 86 and I would like to make sure it is clean and free of chopped up leaves. I just had a marathon session of removing leaf litter from the blower and evaporator area. The motor was even full of leaf chunks. I used a hose after vacuuming and the water turned out to be coming out the lower seam of the case as the bolt there had backed out. I never did find the drain. Can I get some pointers as to it's location?
I think I am going to try to use some screen to help keep the leaves out, but attaching it and keeping it in place may be troublesome. What have you guys done?
I searched through the 1987 Ford Shop Manuals (over 100 pages on the A/C systems) and there is no mention of, nor diagram indicating a drain or drain hose assembly for the F-Series trucks- Only the E-Series Vans which have a different shaped evaporator case and possibly a larger evaporator coil in order to cool the larger volume of air space in the Vans - which would produce more condensation and require the drain assembly.
This information should be the same as for your 1986 F250. There might be a small opening along that lower seam you mentioned but otherwise it appears to be designed to drain through that seam.
This is what the evaporator case drain assembly looks like on the E-Series Vans:
