I am ready to get my '66 wired with a new American Wiring harness. That big box of wire and clips and pieces parts just blows my mine. So, I am going to fine someone who know's what they are doing to actually wire the truck. I will need to get the truck started (new rebuild 390) and running so I can get it upon my trailer in order to take it to the shop. Now this is where I need one of you electrical types to give me some advice and possibly a hand drawn sketch.
I have the battery cables attached and the solenoid wired ( I think correctly) and the wire going to the starter. I bought one of those starter switches with two wires and gator clips (Bosch). Where the heck to I attach these clips?
I will take a pic tomorrow of how the solenoid is wired and post it.
Starter switch from Pos on battery, other end to solenoid terminal closest to pos from battery. Also need to run jumper from pos on battery to pos on coil. To stop engine disconnect pos to coil. It's called "Hot Wiring".
Doing a Hot Wire with an engine on a test stand or in the truck sitting on flat ground to test run is safe enough. We always keep a pair of sharp side cutter pliers in the back pocket to cut the power to the ignition quickly.
There is no way in this world that I would I try and temprorarily wire a vehicle and attempt to drive in under its own power onto a trailer. Now way to stop quick and you are asking for trouble. BIG TROUBLE!.
The correct terminal used to energize the solenoid will be marked "S" but some of the Chinese ones aren't marked at all. If you hot-wire it like Christmas suggests, it will start and run, but you shouldn't run it too long without a resistor in the circuit.
I spent much of my youth in hot-wired cars and I'm still here...

RSH- I think I posted this sometime in the past but this is about as simple as it can get. But if your engine hasn't been run in and especially if it has a new cam. I would push it on the trailer until you have time to do a proper run in.
