[QUOTE=Daneman;18630291]And, where can I pick up a bluetooth scan adapter today? I mean I see them online, but would an autoparts store or somewhere like that carry them?[/QUOTE
I use forscan both the mobile app and the windows version. I got a cheap ($50) amazon fire, really any android device would work. At first I was using an old Samsung S5 but it was too small. After some side loading I have a cheap monitor. If you ahve any questions about that let me know. Someone recently posted this https://www.ebay.com/itm/112663860981?ul_noapp=true which I think I may pull the trigger on cause the windows version can do much more than the phone app. And my personal laptop is way too big. For both my phone and my laptop I use this Bluetooth adapter.
Many of the various monitoring apps will list which dongles are know to work well with the app, most are bought online.
All EXs came with an air to oil trans cooler between the AC condenser and radiator, some early models did not have the additional cooling loop inside the radiator, for towing work you definitely want both. Take a look at you radiator tank on the passenger side to see if you have the trans fluid tubing going into and out of it, I think it was only '00 rigs that lacked the water to oil cooler. The 6.0 air to oil cooler is about twice as big as the factory cooler for the V-10 and what I would assume the 5.4 has from the factory.
I have the 6.0 cooler and the other day towing 400+ miles in 84* ambient temps the trans ran at a steady 167* or so towing at 70 MPH and 20,000lbs combined weight. The trans should be safe to operate as high as 220*-ish according to Mark K.
pretty sure it was only the 7.3 that didn’t have the radiator cooler. Edit, 6.8 or 7.3 vehicles prior to 02/06/2000, so i would think the 5.4 should have one?
mine was built 5/1/00 and came with 4.30’s so i have one
These are the only lines I see going into my radiator, and they're on the bottom.
yup, thats them. You have both. Unsure of what size on the 5.4 though. I would get a way to scan your trans temp and go from there. Obviously it most likely got hot, but as Mark said it may not have been a heat issue

it just went to the transmission shop. I had rotator cuff surgery a year ago so dropping that tranny in my driveway isn’t an issue.
It has the smaller air cooler but I may get him to install the 6.0 if it’s available locally.
Do yourself a favor and only let that shop install a 6.0 cooler and not some other aftermarket option. As was said earlier, many of us have the Dorman made 6.0 cooler and are all happy with it vs. the OEM Ford cooler at 3 times the $.

Preciate it.
When I mentioned it to him, he was very familiar with the 6.0 already. He started trying to sell me on it until I told him that I was already convinced.
I have a ScanGauge II mounted on the column and connected to my OBD port permanently. I can use it as a glorified trip meter, scan for codes, or more importantly.....read all the sensors built into the truck that isn't displayed on the dash. For my uses, that means watching trans and engine temps while climbing our mountain passes here out West.
