Today on the freeway coming home from work I witnessed my first ever death wobble and it happened to be on a Jeep. It was some scary stuff watching that front end wobble like that. Dude did a great job of keeping her under control even though I thought he was going to lose it.
I never knew this was a thing on the Jeeps but apparently any solid front axle vehicle could be a candidate.
The new1959(ish) Gillig school bus I rode for 12 years had death wobble towards the end my school days. The driver, simply steered gently towards the shoulder and then back towards the center line. No sharp moves. Anyway, it seemed to settle things down, probably by tightening up, at least temporarily, the slack in the steering. Serving suggestion. YMMV.
I had it on my '34 with stock suspension. Everything was tight.
The cure was to weld a boss to the frame and install a shock absorber that bolts to the steering link. Cured the problem.
