71 F250 Build thread
What it looked like when I brought it home.
The list of what I plan on doing is as follows:
Crown Vic front end swap
15-19 Mustang GT IRS
Willwood Brakes
box in the frame
LWB to SWB conversion keeping the toolbox in the bed. Should be interesting to see how this turns out.
Build the FE 390 to be ~500 hp/Tq with EFI.
Swap in a Tremec TKO or T-56 (still unsure of what transmission I want)
Interior will have bucket seats and updated heat/AC and custom center console. I like the one Hackster made and may copy some of the things he did in his build.
Full re-wire with a new wire harness and custom gauges
I have an idea on the paint, but I'll leave that for a bit longer.
My guess is that this will take about 2 years to do. Lots of cash will be going to this as I think this will end up as a fantastic daily.
Driver side. Not too bad, but you can see light coming up from underneath and the kick panel needs some work as well.
Passenger side. Lots to cut out along with some of the kick panel.
I also took a look at the cab mounts and unfortunately, it looks like both of them are cracked and will need to be replaced.
One of the mounts showing cracking.
So I've already ordered new cab mounts (OEM type) and floor pans from Dennis Carpenter. Hopefully I can get started on replacing these in short order.
They sit up a little higher than I had first anticipated, but I'll get used to it. I'm 6'2" so the more leg room is nice. When I re-upholster them I'll be adding head rests as well.
I also used my nephew to add the 3-point seat belts. His arms are small enough that they fit up the side walls of the truck so I could bolt them in. Will be easier once the in-cab fuel tank is permanently removed.

From what I can tell it's both A/C and Heat in one unit. The controls I plan on using will go where the Ashtray was and can be seen at https://www.vintageair.com/images/49110-SVQ.jpg. I saw this spot and figured it was a good location as I don't smoke and have no need for an ashtray/coin collection vessel. I'll be modifying the radio, heater controls area to fit a double din stereo.

Christmas in May for me!
Looks like Santa brought me some presents in May. Unfortunately I'm going to need to finish an entryway table for my wife and then clean our space where my FJ is so my F250 can then park there for the foreseeable future.
I'm gonna try and get things started by the end of May. We shall see how it goes.
So now that it's 95% done; I still have to finish the two drawers on either side, I can start cleaning the garage to get the truck in.
I did; however, end up getting the rear suspension for my build: 2015 Ford Mustang GT IRS...
For a whopping $450 I can't complain. I found it locally (if Albquerque to north of Santa Fe is local) so I didn't have to worry about shipping and everything on flea-bay was $550+. Wheels are a weird brand and I can't find them anywhere online... searched quite a bit. Logo says ZR Alloy Wheels... One has a lot of rash on it so I'll just replace both of them... I'm thinking of OZ racing... in 18x8.5 all around. cheaper than the wheels I found that look similar to the ones shown below.
ZR Alloy Wheels, 20x10 on 5x114(4.5")
Wheel has a lot of rash, If I keep these, I'll need to replace this one.
So once I get the truck in the garage, I'll start pulling it apart. I'll be selling quite a bit off of this thing so when I pull things off, I'll let people know what I'll sell and put them in an add on the for sale section of this forum.
As far as moving along with the truck, I'm at least getting parts ready... I did manage to get the garage cleaned out today and got the truck in, so now it's time to start pulling things apart for making it a SWB. I'm hoping to have the bed and original suspension off of it this month and then cutting the frame and figuring out where to box it in with the new suspension.
For those of you who have boxed in your frames, did you use 3/16" or 1/8" sheet for it? I have a 4'x8' sheet of 3/16", but I think the 1/8" will do and be quite a significant weight savings in the process.
