Door Mirror Mount Question
My Question: My truck has 5x8 mirrors and I'd rather change them to the 6x9 mirrors. does anyone know if the mount points are the same? I suspect they aren't but I'm hoping someone here knows for sure one way or the other.
Thanks

Currently on the truck I believe I have:
E5TZ 17696-A & E5TZ 17696-B
I would prefer to replace them with:
E0TZ 17696-E
I was just hoping someone had compared the mounts or done this before since I'm not keen on ordering a set just to find out.
They fit the holes I had in the door, the top holes use the same factory stock holes the small car mirrors uses. Cant remember now if the lower mounting holes had more in the door skin or not?
Now do the 6x9 use the same holes? I can't say but would be nice to know because if I start pulling a trailer more I would have got the 49-6612 ones that turn out.
Then again guess I could make something to do the same thing on the 5x8 mirrors.
Do let us know

The Lowe seam on my door is pretty rusted from water pooling due to no weather stripping. I'm curious if the doors LMC sells already have lower mounting points. It may be easier to not repair what I have and just buy a whole new Plug-N-Play door.

For my type 9 mirrors the lower mounts use a nutsert. It is a threaded barrel that is crimped to the door sheet metal and the bolt threads into in.
I have not installed the nutserts yet, waiting to paint the truck, but the holes are drilled to make sure all will fit after paint.
As for the doors having mirror holes I am pretty sure none in the lower part because not everyone has that type of mirror and why make 2 doors?
I don't even know if it would have the top holes or the backer plate, more money to do that you know.
As for the rust in the lower part of the door. There should be 3 or 4 drain holes (slots) across the bottom. 1 in each corner and 1 or 2 in the center.
Now even if they are open, they may not be, the doors were never coated inside before the outer skink was crimped around the frame so you get rust at that points.
I got all my patch panels from http://tabcoparts.com/ and was really happy with them, nice gauge and fit was great.
Oh I replaced both sides: floors pans, rockers, lower rear door jamb post, rear cab corners and the inside & outside lower part of the left door.
I then went on to swap out the firewall for an AC one, they are different for AC & non-AC trucks. Then used a metal ribbed floor in place of the wood floor on my flare side because I had a good floor from my parts truck the firewall came from.

I took one and held it up to the existing mirror and as of right now looks like it'll line up.
Quality on the mirrors seems pretty good. Funnily enough they are made by a company that specializes in British cars and there is no reference on that company's website that they make them. Only indication I had was on the instructions and the packing tape both of which had the company name on them.

I didn't even thing about the new doors not having the normal backer plates. I hope they do, if not I will let you guys know and will be looking for the hardware lol. Granted I am more comfortable with a drill and have more experience drilling up, riveting and bonding carbon fiber, Ti, aluminum and steel then I do with a welder.

Which I will be using on one door in the truck as I believe it was replaced at some point and is currently just using a nut to hold the mirror so I have to pull the panel to swap it...
The upper mount uses the same holes as the small car type mirrors and that is the 1 that has the backer plate on the inside.
If not the small car mirror screws would pull out.

Looks like his is coming with 4. My current replacement mirrors came with no nut inserts as they are meant to use the existing backing plate. If the new doors are not set up for at least this I may look into cannibalizing the one from the old door and tacking it into the new one.
If he has what I call camper mirrors the brackets for that type do mount low on the door and would use 4 nutserts.
