Installing Overhead Console

Hello all,

I’ve recently been considering installing the overhead console with the temp/compass display in my truck. ‘99 F-250 7700.
It didn’t come with it stock, so I’d be going to the junkyard to pick the parts.

What all would I need and is it even worth it?

Thanks in advance!

It's kindof nice... I glance up at the compass and my 6 year old has learned about temperature, and what is considered "freezing" on our way to school in the mornings.
I'm sure there is wiring already in place, and you will need to get the sensor that mounts behind the grill also. The wiring is likely already there, also.
I'd probably try and get the whole headliner out of the same truck also, to avoid having to figure out where to trim yours.
I use the sunglasses cubby also.
I have never been able to get the garage door opener thing to work with my opener, but I don't park in the garage, and keep my opener hidden anyway, because I'm bad about accidentally leaving my truck unlocked at night, and don't want someone to be able to get in my truck, and also be open my garage...

I’ve had my headliner out several times and don’t recall seeing wiring up in that area. would it possibly be run around the back or something?

I also recently had my headliner re-covered so it’s really nice. I’d hate to have to take that one out for a junkyard one. How hard could it be to cut it out properly?

I was speculating on the wiring. My truck does not have fog lights, but the plugs are under the bumper.
I'm pretty sure there is a plug for heated mirrors, also, even though my truck doesn't have them.
Triming the headliner shouldn't be hard. I'd maybe use the junkyard one as a template.
Did you notice mounting tabs in the sheetmetal when you had your headliner out before?
I've had my console out numerous times trying to fix the thermometer.

I don’t think I saw anything around there. May pull it back down and check it out. But agreed, my truck has plugs for fogs but never had them, same goes for rear speakers (reg cab) and cargo light. So it may just have the info display wiring.

The 99 trucks have no ability to support this.
