I see a lot of new to them trucks lately on FTE. I am on my third truck in 4yrs. One thing they have all had in common is the cowl is full of leaves, dirt etc..... 2 of them up to the dash. This can cause a fire in the heater and rot the body in areas that are very hard to repair. Anyone else have this problem?
I remove the three rubber plugs located on cowl under hood once a year and use a flexible hose on a shop vac fished through the holes to remove the leaves. I also annually pull the fresh air vents, heater motor, defrost hoses, and heater intake hose to remove any leaves. It is a PITA but something that needs to be done. I also cut new access holes and made covers to access the space behind the lower door hinges so I can clean that space out annually as well. It is incredible how much organic material gets in those spaces over a year's time and how much moisture that material traps.
Christmas,
