Replacing stock shocks

I have a 2019 250 SD FX4 and wanting a little softer ride. I’m dont climb rocks and really only got the FX4 because it was already equipped. I was look8ng at replacing the stock shocks with Bielstein 5100’s. Should I replace front and back both? Or could I get by with just the rear?

thoughts?

you might have good luck starting with tire pressure. I’m not an expert on it but have read good things.

Those 5100’s will probably result in a stiffer ride to be honest. May have better luck with the RANCHOS. I can’t speak for them but many board members love them because they are adjustable.

If you want to spend the money, Fox 2.0 performance shocks with adjusters are really nice. Kinda like the ranchos but way better quality. I'm looking at them hard. Accutune will even tune them before sending them to you. They accept paypal credit so you can stretch the payments out with no interest.

Ride quality is pretty subjective...firm for some, is harsh to others... Lots of opinions on shocks, do a search, then, good luck!

I have the 5100's and they are significantly better than stock at absorbing bumps. Highly recommended. I have not tried the Fox setup.

Just put on Bilstein 4600 shocks front and rear. No obvious difference in around-town driving yet. Will be putting many miles on the truck pulling a trailer next month, hope that it cures the concrete freeway expansion joint bounce.

Did try lowering the tire pressures to 45 psi on all tires once, and that helped ride quality a lot, but it was a pain to have to pump them back up to normal pressures to tow the trailer, so ended up leaving them at about 60 psi front / 75 psi rear.

Just got used to the thing riding like a truck, I guess.

Look into the Rancho 5000X shocks. Heard good things about them and will probably go that route when I decide to change out my factory shocks.

Well I have a 19 350 DRW and to me it feels like the valving has improved from 18 to 19. When I'm not towing I run about 48 in the rears and 60 ish front.
Rides like a Cadillac. Even my wifes likes the ride and she drives an 18 Raptor!
Play with air pressure first.

With adjustable shocks I think you can go too far on the soft side. I had my Rancho 9000XL shocks dialed low at first. Bump steer seemed to be more prevalent. After increasing them the bump steer was much better.
