Oil temps
next is hook up the modus scanner and make sure all fan speeds are working, pull the oil cooler and cnc a plate then.
There was a failure in the oil pan, basically the oil gets sucked up from the sump then runs through the oil filter then over to the oil cooler keep in mind these oil jackets are built into the pan. after the oil cooler the oil runs to the crank. There is a freeze plug design that separates the wall in the pan from the oil cooler entrance and oil cooler exit, the freeze plug was pushed dislodged. thus not allowing the oil to flow properly. some oil went through the cooler some didn't.
see pictures below. to do this job the transmission has to be pulled book time is roughly 8.5 hours.
This problem began happening about 1000 miles after install.
now let me tell you about my experience with ford. To understand this you'll need to know the motor was punched from a dealer, but all catastrophic motor failures run through ford powertrain warranty.
So when the problem was found i contacted powertrain warranty and explained the situation after about 30 minutes of arguing with them about wanting a new motor because the motor ran for a few hundred miles with high oil temps because of a failed pan they absolutely refused to replace the motor because it was still operable. the told me to contact the dealer for parts and labor warranty.
contacted the dealer, the parts manager agreed with me that the motor should in-fact be replaced as well, he then contacted powertrain. About an hour latter he calls me back and explained that powertrain would not replace the motor under warranty because 240-290 isn't that hot and the truck did what it was supposed to do and shutt off before it could reach dangerous temps. the dealer then agreed to warranty the parts and labor.
The motor is still under 2 year unlimited mile warranty.
Everything was documented via email for the future. truck is up and running now after 2 days of dealing with warranty. temp won't go above 206 now.
