So, on my 2005 Lariat my display with the Odometer has been acting funky, sometimes it's completly dark, sometimes it's all scrambled. I took it apart once and touched up all the solder joints but it didn't change anything. Anyone knows if you can just get the circuitboard? Also, where is the actual mileage stored?
I believe you supply your mileage stored in your pcm . There s guy on here that just bought an 04 and it showed 110k he got a car report and it had it at 280k . .I have not looked at pcm for miles .
Maybe someone who has done it will chime in.
I had the same issue with the dash cluster in my 06 lariat and replaced it with a salvaged unit. The mileage was within 5,000km so I was not worried about it being inaccurate. You can send your cluster off to get repaired, I had looked at Speedometer Repair | Instrument Cluster Repair | Odometer Repair | Mr. Whizard before replacing the unit. If I had wanted to update the mileage on the cluster, the option I was given was taking it to the dealership and they would have had to send it out to be loaded with the same mileage that was on the PCM.
When my cluster was acting up I also got the constant sound of the door chime sometimes, if I hit the dash to the left of the wheel it would go away and the display would smarten up. The mechanic showed me the cluster before tossing it, the issue was a loose connection on the LCD display, and it had some charring from sparking (probably when I hit it). I have had no issues with it since the repair, about 5 years.
