3” difference from front to back.

I think my 2000 X front springs are gone. They are flat and the bumpers are gone. There is a 3” front to back difference from the ground to middle wheel well. 36”/39” I ordered some SumoSprings to replace the front bumpers. I would appreciate all recommendations for spring and shackle replacement. I am not looking to modify the back. I don’t tow anything but a small snow mobile trailer. I am leaning towards a V spring. Will this raise the X so it will be more even or will I need some kind of adjustable shackle? I welcome all thoughts.

standard measurment is from the center of the hub , straight up to the bottom of the fender arch.

get those measurements since it is how we discuss and knoe them.

pics of the front and rear springs would also be helpful

Your front springs springs are sagged about 1” from when they were new, the rears are fine.

right at where your front ride height is at now we start to see so bad handling traits start to appear, namely Wander at highway speeds on flat and level ground and of course bottoming out which is evident by the missing bump stops.

you have a few decisions to make and options as to how you want to fix it.

1. Stock ride height stock suspension travel at 23”front and 24” rear.
2. Increased ride height and suspension travel to either 26-26 , 26-27 Or 27”-27”
If you follow my recipes it will ride, tow and handle better then stock

Either way you need new shocks,

Motorcraft stock replacement front springs run about $200 each

increased ride height springs x 4 $600 + adjustable track bar $200 + ubolt s and shims add another $150 or so.

i can link all the part numbers and vendors but it is all available online if you are interested

In stages or all at once

thanks Pirate

So can I do it over a few months in stages or do I have it all at once?

what would be priority and how would you proceed?

Any links would be appreciated as well. With so many vendors on the net, I know their are authorized vendors and unauthorized ones.

Could I start with shocks and front springs?

How to proceed depends on what you decide to do, Increase the stock ride height and increase the amount of wheel travel or stick with the stock ride height.

sumusprings
https://www.supersprings.com/shop/SSF-109-40/

i have never used these and until now I was not familiar with them but reading the product info I don’t see these as being a fix for your current issue.

your problem is not a lack of capacity, curious thing about springs is that even when they sag they do not loose their spring rate they just loose their arch, which is to say they change shape. The front springs are the correct spring rate and provide all the capacity your Ex needs.. what your sagged leaf spring is lacking is arch so adding capacity to your spring with the sumospring is not going to fix your issue.

what you need is new front leaf springs.

the challenge with the stock excursion suspension is its limited suspension travel at about 5” at the 23” ride height.

by using a longer spring with more arch we can increase the travel to 8” which is why the ride height changes to 26 to 27”

Motorcraft spring, stock replacement

To increase the ride height and suspension travel I use the Procomp 22210 front and 22415 rear.

Keep it stock height

So if I keep it stock height, would I level it out with a 2” kit and put on V springs? That is what was leaning towards. But I have no experience in this area.

So ...

tell me what I need to do.

No, if you keep it stock you use the spring I linked from Tasca. Stock has a 1” rake.

if you use a V code then your front will be 1” higher then the rear, the problem with this is that there is no ideal rear spring to match, People modify b codes but then you end up with a unbalanced vehicle since the rear rate is far to high, People make do with this setup because in the past that was really all that was available and we made them from free junk yard springs, I certainly would not pay for them.

The list

1. Use stock spring.

2. Use KB shocks

No 2” leveling kit.

What about missing bumpers? Should I go ahead and try the SumoSprings? I need something? Right now it hits on these MN roads.

How about traction bar? After 19 years and 185k, will it be worn? I am replacing all the tie rods because it developed a wobble in the steering when turning after a major pot hole. After replacing the outer, the problem was 80% solved. I just want to replace any problematic parts for safety reason. I plan on replacing the power steering pump and hoses since something is leaking.

Mototorcraft bump stops are about the Dorman ones are a tad less expensive.

i would run the stock bump stops and replace as needed, if you try the Sumo let us know what you think of them
