I would be curious to know if the shocks (black on both FX4 and 4x4) are the same part number. It says they are different in the package description. They certainly could be (and still be black Tennecos).
My '17 is an FX4 although I am not likely to ever go off-roading in this truck.
My guess is, a good percentage of the people with the FX4 package have no intention of ever going off road. But it is such a popular package (probably some good profit for the dealer), it is sometime hard to find the truck you want without it.. There are a lot of FX4's out there.
Hill descent can be added for $20 (Ford factory button) and FORScan. Skid plates can be added (to a build) for $90. Thus, the remaining $250 you're paying for FX4 are for worthless shock "upgrade" and a cool sticker (that I actually like). So, yes, massive profit margin for the dealer on this package with very limited utility for the customer.

Nothing in my post quoted MSRP. I'm sure you didn't pay MSRP; nobody does. Yours wasn't free, though.
How much off MSRP did you pay for your truck? Apply that percentage to the FX4 MSRP of $400. That's what you paid for your FX4 option.
Good luck.
I reserve the right to specifically allocate my discounts, I choose fx4 package as the first thing I knocked off list and refused to pay for. Second is the chrome package. Then I negotiated a price on remaining items.
