1988 351W distributor replacement

I've had the TFI fail a couple of times - very scary when you lose power steering and brakes at 60mph! Considering relocating the TFI, but might take it a step further if I can find an aftermarket distributor that functions without the TFI module. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Dan

You can't eliminate the TFI it's part of the ignition system, but a relocation is doable with a newer distributor and a remote mount TFI. BTW what brand modules are you using?

A mechanic replaced the TFI, don't know the brand but I know it didn't come from a Ford dealership. I was under the impression that some of the MSD distributors had eliminated the TFI but if that's not the case I'll definitely remount the TFI on one of the fender walls. Is there a specific brand of TFI that you recommend? Thanks, Dan

Motorcraft is the only brand worth using. Best to pull the wiring and heatsink for a remote TFI off a junkyard truck and then get a remote mount version of a Ford distributor.. the internal module inside the distributor and it's wiring connector is different.

Thanks. I'll try and figure out which TFI was installed. If I can't eliminate the TFI I'll probably keep the original distributor as it has given me no problems.
Found a remote kit online (McCully Racing Motors- We have exactly what your over-heated TFI Module Needs!) - looks like it will save a trip to the junkyard.
