5.0 running rough

Am looking for some ideas I have an 88 F150 with 90K miles. It has the following problems.

1) Oil blow by into the air filter box'

2) Runs really rough and I just tuned it up. The plugs I pulled out where in good shape no signs of fouling at all.

3) After I drive the truck and come to an a stop the oil pressures goes really low unless I keep it reved up.

4) I guess my next step is a compression check to see if its the whole engine or just the heads. Could I still have good compression and just be the valve?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like it could be a ring problem. Oil in the air box is normally a sure sign. I would check the PVC system for proper vacuum and no blockage. A gummed up air box could restrict airflow to the engine. I have seen engines have bad blowby and still run pretty good. Good luck.

It sounds like a combination of things to me!

The definate problem as far as oil pressure goes is your mains. All bearings including the cam bearings are responsible for oil pressure. I had the same problem with my 88 5.0 and I failed to replace the cam bearings along with the mains. The oil pressure went up to about 17 (Which was considerable, considering when it was at idle I had 2 lbs of pressure) but not as high as I had hoped.

Good news is, it is a cheap fix. Bad news is, it takes some time to do!
