I have a 1993 F-150 w/300 I-6, 5-Spd. and A/C. When I switch to Max A/C, at some point in time during the trip, sometimes a few minutes, sometimes longer, the air flow will change from the vent registers to the defrost registers. I can change settings to normal and the air flow will go back to the vent registers. Changing to Max, air flow will stay at the vent registers for a little while, then go back to the defroster.
Is this a vacuum or electrical problem? Both? It's getting to be summer here in Texas and we really need the Max setting to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It's a vacuum problem. Could be a mode door vacuum actuator, the recirc vacuum actuator, the control head itself, or a leaking vacuum hose. Do you hear a hissing sound under the dash?
I do hear a hissing sound and my first guess was vacuum. However, I haven't fooled around much with systems on computer controlled vehicles so I didn't know if something else might be involved. I guess I'll start checking hoses and go from there. If it is something other than that it may be out of my league.
