The truck has set for the past couple of months while installing clutch and components. The carb ran fine prior and it is less than a year old. Started up this a.m. and fuel started spilling out, what I believe to be the vent for the primary metering plate? I adjusted the float level but I am not sure it was necessary since it would seem to me the problem is possibly in the metering plate? Sprayed carb cleaner down the vent but did not solve the problem.

Appreciate suggestions on possible solutions greatly appreciated!

Most likely the float valve (items 10 and 11) may be jammed with residues left over from whatever was in the gasoline after it evaporated.

As soon as I read your response I backed the needle valve screw enough to spray some Carb cleaner down the opening as well as the throttle plates, manual choke; basically a lite quick spray of the entire carburetor and after letting it set for 45 minutes it started up w/ no leaks and ran to where I could perform the fine-tuning. Believe now that I can get it on the road I will be able to work out the bugs.

Thank you!!

This is when electric fuel pumps shine. And if you have access to no ethanol fuel, by all means use it. I alternate between this (91 octane) and 10% E10 Premium fuel (93 octane) in my 77 Comet. This has kept the 3 two bbls happy for the past 15 years. It sits for months at a time in my shop, I jump in turn the fuel pump on, let it reprime the carbs and fire it up.

After making a few 'bonehead' mistakes and the weather it took longer than expected to replace the clutch assembly, brake system, etc., I probly should have run the engine couple time a week even though headers were not installed. Been the family workhorse for past 40 plus years miss it when it aint on the road.

Thanks to all for the input!!
