Anyone replace their window channels and sweeps on their trucks? Any recommendation on suppliers of these parts? I see Amazon has them for both doors for about $65 made by AM autoparts, Mfgr part number AM-18838522. I'm sure these replacement window parts vary in quality. I think this is one of those elements that OEM stuff will be hard to find. So let's hear about your experience with replacements, part quality and fitment!
Pretty sure I got mine from Rockauto. They were reasonably cheap -- I think less than LMC. And they have done a good job. I got the four piece kit: You snap the outer pieces onto the doors, and rivet the inner pieces onto holes in the door panels.

I was inspecting mine this AM and I think I'm going to wait on the window channel. Did a small repair with contact cement and they should be good for a while. I'm going to get the 4 piece window sweeps. Did you have to remove the door panel and the window to do it?
Anyone do the channels the glass moves up & down in?
How about the vent window gaskets?
If so who did you go thru and are they holding up?
I ask because I also need the channels as there was nothing left of mine so why not replace everything?

I'm going to get the 4 piece window sweeps. I've never heard them called this.
FoMoCo: Belt Weatherstrips // Repro parts sellers: Anti-Rattlers // Auto glass shops: Cat Whiskers.
In order to install these, the glass has to be dropped below the belt, basically to the bottom of the door.
So you have to remove the door panel, then the window roller (23240) that connects the window regulator (23200) to the channel (21458) that the glass is adhered to.

I did not have to remove the glass, but I took the door panels off. With the door panels off, you can still put the crank handle back on if you need to lower the window to get things into position.
My window channels were and still are pretty sketchy -- my glass can move a lot back and forth when the window isn't in the up position. So you might have more difficulty getting everything into place if your glass won't move. I would imagine it's still doable without much difficulty.
I got new Vent Rubbers $40.00 from The Parts Place on E bay and I also have new felts and bottom window sweeps for about $60.00 from AM Auto Parts also on E bay.
I thought $100.00 to do both doors was very reasonably priced cheaper than what I found on Amazon. I did get new door seals from Amazon cost me about $75.00.

Great thread! I have to do the same job on my 1986 F-150. Mine are dry rotted and cracked so I get a nice whistling sound when I hit 55 MPH. I don't like to chance driving it in the rain for fear of water getting in the door panels. It does not look like a hard job to do to my untrained eye - but maybe I am wrong.
Has anyone added any kind of "sound proofing" inside the door? I have heard about it but was not sure that this is a good thing to do.
A couple questions to those who have done this job -
Any "oh crap" moments to watch out for when doing this job? I do not have power windows so I think that this would make the job easier.
Also, I have a carpeted door "map pouch" (or whatever it is called) that came off that I want to install again. Do I put that on first before the upper door panel (after the window channels and sweeps are installed of course).
Thanks to everyone sharing their thoughts. I learn a lot from you all.
LOL. That's a two piece that anyone would love work on.
I am splitting hairs here but I have to ask....Anyone know if there is any difference between the window channels (the parts needed above) between the model years of 1986 and 1987? In LMC and other catalogs they split the listings between the two years and I know that the 1986 was the last year of the Bullnose. So when I buy the parts do I stick with the 1986 parts or did Ford happen to throw 1987 parts in my truck? BTW, it came off the line in May of 1986 (it's an XLT Lariat).
Sorry for a seemingly dumb question but it would help me order the correct parts.

Many thanks.
Some items are the same from 80 to 96 but many are only swap-able in certain year ranges. Where parts houses have separate listings for sub years you can almost bet that there are differences and then stick to your model year in those cases.
I thought I seen a post that the vent window on the 87 up were a different size and may make the other parts different too?
But I don't remember seeing any thing about the main glass being different?
