I am looking at a former Fire Department 1968 Ford C650. My worry is, where to find parts. I've spent all day looking and am not finding much. Is this truck going to be rebuildable if I buy it?
I did find many brakes and engine parts on rockauto.com, but many parts will be from obsolete auto parts places. I don't remember the names of them well enough to post but a little searching through this section of FTE will show some of the names.
Most will be scrap yard parts. IIRC, there are no reproduction C series parts. But given the billions served, they are not hard to find, and many are at the "donor" stage.
Regarding brakes, you can find brake parts, shoes, rebuild kits, wheel cylinders etc, but you can not find new drums.

There was 15x5 and 15x6 drums on rockauto.com but at 300+ each I would just have them resurfaced.
EDIT sry I was looking at 1985 parts on rockauto, no listing for 1968 drums.

1964/72 w/a gas engine could be a C550, C600, C700, C750, C800. It's probably either a C550 or C600.
Post the VIN, the first 3 digits define what series and model the truck is.
NAPA and etc. indie auto parts stores will have mechanical parts, though the brake drums are almost impossible to find.
There are no 15 x 5 or 15 x 6 front drums for any C series. The rears could be, depending on the rear axle capacity, 15 x 4, 15 x 5, 15 x 6 for C550/600's.
There's a gazillion different sellers of obsolete parts, but there's no point in listing any of them until you need something.
However, Green Sales Co. in Cincinati OH has the largest stock of parts (800-543-4959).
I'm going to go see it this weekend. Will have the VIN then. If Ford made these trucks from the late 50's through 1990, would it be possible to swap disc brakes from a new one to an old one?

I know this can be done on 1965/72 F100/250 2WD, 1967/72 F350, but I'm unaware that disc brake parts from any of the newer trucks, can be swapped onto any of the oldies.

Most likely you are looking at an axle swap. Numberdummy might be able to tell if any C series ever came with disc brakes, but even if it did, I would bet it's a specific axle, not just an option on an otherwise drum brake axle.

Front discs available as an option in 1984/86 C600 with 6,000 & 7,000 lbs. capacity front axles.
Parts catalog parts list says Dayton-Walther disc brakes.
