Originally posted by elt449 If i may ask this. What ever happened to actual interaction with the kids? So many people these days choose to sit a child in front of a vidio game, TV and such rather than occupy a childs mind with pertinant things like conversation.
We as children learned by doing and watching adults, adults that spent time with us, talking, showing, teaching, NOT a TV.
I must be lost in time someplace. My daughter grew up to respect me and my wife because we actualy treated her like a human, gave her chores and rules to which she followed. There was no vidio's or DVD's or anything of the sort unless she did her chores.
"I am not knocking anyones parenting skills!" I am however wondering what has happened to our children and I am learning that they are coddled, waited on hand to mouth and given things that franckly should be left to adults.
"The opinions expressed above are those of one person who through discussions with others has found that children need more adult interaction and less electronic toy's."
WTF?!@ There is nothing wrong with letting kids watch movies in cars/trucks. Why dont drivers stop talking and pay closer attention to the road? At home i do feel some kids watch too much tv but what else are they gonna do on long trips? Don't you rember how bored long trips where when you were a kid? By all mean voice your opinion but it kinda seems like your venting on the board about something.
I contacted the manufacturer of DVD X copy. They are looking into the issue. I will let you know if they have a solution. I was looking at a forum on the DVD X copy website and someone posted the same problem. This individual was able to isolate the software as the issue. They had someone else make a back-up copy (same movie, same media) using a different software package and it played on the Ford DVD player. I have also made DVDs on my burner from home video that will play on the Ford DVD.
Seems as tho there is a setting that may need to be changed. Book type? bit rate? joilet? could be your pc set a few settings differant from your friends. PC's are funny like that some times. Are you both running the same version windows? i have a few DVDs I made on memorex +R but i havent tried them yet.
In response to the question about the burn speed that I am using- I always burn at 2x under advisement from the people at X-Copy. It could possibly be their software that is the problem, I'm waiting for the new update for platinum to come out- their moderator thinks this could be a kink that will be worked out. I'm certain that it's not the media, so I've narrowed it down to the burner or the software. I'm using Windows XP, & so is my brother-in-law (whose copies work in my truck), so I'm doubtful that it's a computer setting. And in response to prplayboy regarding his child-rearing advice- I am of the belief that my concentration as the driver of the vehicle is of the utmost importance, far above that of entertaining my children during a long drive. My kids' one request in a new vehicle was a dvd player, which I was happy to give them, even though I had to give up the onstar system that I really wanted to balance the price (the side-curtain air-bags were a necessity & you have to stop with the options somewhere!). I am a stay-at-home mom who has happily put a career on hold to raise 2 happy, well-adjusted, straight-A kids who love watching movies as well as reading books in the car, so I think you can go ahead & step off your soap-box because I'm doing okay!

I hear ya but it seems as if your mixing my response with elt449. I have nothing against letting kids watch tv in cars/trucks and i have nothing against backing up your movies. Heck i even hacked my Xbox and I am now backing up all my games!
Now on to your X copy.... Did you have any dvd burning software previously on your PC? When i went to install my Nero 6 I had to uninstall my Roxio software first because i was getting errors in my burns. It was as if Roxio made certain setting different for Nero.
You're right- my mistake regarding the response that should have gone out to elt449, I apologize. As far as another burn software interfering with the burn, I had to clear all interfering software out when I first set up X-Copy because it's ridiculously temperamental about conflicts. That's one of the major weak points of this software. But since I'm getting it to burn movies that work in other players, I doubt it's a software conflict. I'm really just fed up with the whole thing, and don't want to invest any more of my time on it until XCopy comes up with a patch or a new version, which could solve the problem. I'm also keeping an eye on the Iomega site for software updates, because it could be a burner problem. I'll keep ya posted!
I just verified and it works perfectly using sony dvd-r and memorex dvd burner. I had no luck using dvd x copy platinum. so I used dvd shrink ripped to desktop then use roxio easy cd dvd and copy Video_TS and Audio_TS folders and burn. email me with any questions. THE dvd player is the OEM one but I bought from ebay so it was manufactured in 12/2001 but My Eddie Bauer is a 2003.
I wonder if the Memorex burner is the key- that's the same one that was used to burn the dvd's that worked for me (by my brother-in-law). Have you tried using X-Copy with your burner and +R media? That's what he uses. What is dvd shrink, & where can I get it? I just got the newest release for X-Copy Platinum, so I'm going to download that & try again, but I'm not really optimistic. I'm tired of messing with a program that has so many quirks!
I'm also having diffuculty getting DVD-r s to play in 2004 Ford factory installed DVD player.
I am using Sony RDR-GX7 stand alone DVD recorder. It will burn -r, -rw, and +rw in video mode.
I like to store prorgrams from discovery channel etc. on a Dishnetwork DVR than burn to DVD for kids to watch on long trips.
The DVD-r s I burn play fine in my wifes Odyssey factory unit but no luck in the Ford factory unit. I have tried all the following blanks: TDK DVD -r ; Imation DVD -rw ; Fuji DVD -r ; and Verbatim "Digital Movie" DVD-r (about $3+ea.) All have been unsuccesful except I did get one TDK DVD-r to play a couple times but now it even gives the "BAD DISK" error and ejects. I am willing to get a DVD burner for my computer if that would work but it would be more convenient the way I record from the Dishnetwork DVR to be able to use the stand alone DVD recorder.
I am starting to get skeptical that anything I burn from either my Sony RDR-GX7 or a DVD burner for my computer will work. I talked to Delphi, the manufacturer of the Ford unit (also GM's). At first they referred me to Visteon the distributor to Ford, but Visteon ran me back to Delphi. Finally a lower level technical "troubleshooter" at Delphi said the unit only supports factory pressed DVDs and could offer no help to me to get anything else I record to play. The Ford dealer's only suggestion was to buy another DVD player and plug it into the auxillary inputs of the factory unit. They can't even swap out the DVD units because according to them nothing else will work with the in dash radio/6 diskCD/DVD control head.
The best solution I can hope for is the right combination of media and recording method. If any of you know of a combination that works pleaaaaassseeeee help!!
I've also got an 04 Expy with the OEM DVD system and just ran into this same issue. My DVD burner is not on a PC; it's in my entertainment center connected to my TV. I've got a Panasonic DMR-E80H, which is a DVD player and recorder. It records both DVD-RAM and DVD-R. This is a similar setup to the above Sony recorder.
Here's what I've discovered. I'm only trying the -R discs here.
My burner will recored in 4 different speeds:
XP (high quality), SP (normal), LP (long play), and EP (extra long)
XP = 1 hour/disc at ~10Mbps bit-rate
SP = 2 hours/disc at ~5Mbps
LP = 4 hours/disc at ~2.5 Mbps
XP = 6 hours/disc at ~1.5 Mbps
My DVD player in my truck will only play discs recorded at the Xp setting. Anything else gets spit back out of the player saying 'Bad Disc'.
The only down side to all this is I only get 60 minutes of video per disc. Oh well. At least the discs recorded at slower speeds play in my other DVD players in my house.
I think you're onto something here. My copies normally get the "bad disc" error msg. & spit out immediately, but when I slowed the speed down they played, although they were choppy with in & out sound. I don't have a HQ setting that I'm aware of, only a choice between 1x, 2x, 3x, & 4x. The ones that I got to play were burned at 1x & 2x. I am using +R media because that is what worked before. It seems that I'm really close to solving the problem. If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
This is my first post but I just put a DVD system in my excursion and I use dvdshrink. It is the best and it is free. You can make back-ups of back-ups and copy just the movie. dvdshrink.org
This is kind of on the subject.... I have looked everywhere I know for a new remote for my 2003 Explorer. I can't find a brand of the DVD player to set up a universal. I tried, maybe I just didn't do it right.... Please help!!! Thanks in advance!
