need some help...2001 7.3

Several months ago I bought a literal barn find 2001 7.3 cclb, srw, f350 4x4 117k miles. There was enough evidence via carfax, dirt dobber nests and numerous pigtails chewed off by mice to determine that it had set for a good number of years. So, I without hesitation started replacing things. All pigtails were done with a soldering iron. Replaced numerous senosors that were leaking. Rebuilt the fuel bowl and resealed the HPOP. Installed a high flow exhaust outlet and deleted turbo pedestal. Resealed all 8 injectors just because. CCV mod. New valve cover gaskets, glow plugs and harnesses. New riffraff intercooler boots, clamps and CNC fab hpop lines etc...All parts were bought from local ford dealer or bob from dieselorings. Long story short...I got it started this evening and it blew lots of smoke like i figured it would. It eventually cleared up and I noticed it puking oil between where the downpipe bolts up to the exhaust outlet and then out the tailpipe itself. I was very surgical in my "rebuild". My OCD will not allow me to do a $%^T job. I cant see it being a bad turbo. It was fine before i started this project. Zero shaft play. I will be out of town till middle of next week. So the truck will just be sitting. Any thoughts yall? Thanks

In that area it has to be oil spraying from one of three places. Oil rail plug oring, 1 of the 4 pedestal orings, or EBPV cylinder.

Pack the area with paper towel wads to identify where it's coming from

It is very easy to inadvertently push the pedestal orings out of place when setting the turbo, especially if you are leaning over the engine trying to keep your balance and you don't set everything down straight on the first try.

Well, it cant be an ebpv cylinder because its been deleted. Could be any 4 of the pedestal o rings. I did witness it (for several minutes) leaking from the v band clamp that connects the down pipe to the exhaust oultet. It eventually filled the exhaust so much that it started leaking from a weep hole in the muffler.

I am sure I will be pulling the pedestal and do some checking sometime next week.

In that case you have a few things wrong.

If the baby butt to turbo is leaking oil, it is also leaking air, so your drive pressure is loosing you some boost. Not as major as the oil leak, but something to look at fitting on the bench when you pull turbo.

Sounds like your metal oil seal in exhaust housing of turbo isn't in quite right. Installed with the split in the ring clocked pointing up?

Did you put a little grease on the pedestal orings to help hold them in place?

Not familiar with this seal. All I did was pull the turbo and pedestal. Install ebpv delete pedestal and high flow (non ebpv) exhaust outlet on turbo and reinstall. Ive done this same thing to other trucks and never a problem. This is the first time ive pulled injectors though.

I use some stuff called "engine assembly lube" for applications such as the pedestal o-rings. Works well and has not let me down yet.

Time for a Cody test

Running well, no smoke, oil in exhaust....turbo seal leaking oil on the turbine side is all I can think it would be.

This is what I'm thinking. If I teardown the turbo would the blown seal be evident?

I would be amazed if I rolled one. Not saying I didn't. But, I think i'm gonna start at the turbo and work my way forwards.

Only two sources for oil dripping out of the muffler are a hole in a piston (not likely) or turbo seal. No other oring or seal is going to squirt oil into the exhaust system.
