I have a 2008 F-150 5.4 liter with 106k miles. This morning I jumped in and tried to start it, but the engine just cranks. Doesn't even sound like it wants to catch. To me almost sounds like no spark, but I'm just not sure.
I checked fuses and everything that I felt that could be connected to this tested fine. The exception was a rely. I don't know how to test relay's.
I have an Edge tuner installed, currently set to mode 0, which is the default setting. There is a built in OBD code reader, but it came back negative with no errors.
When it is cranking, does the Check engine light turn off? Or does the tach move at all while cranking?
If you cycle the key two or three time before cranking make any difference?

The check engine light does not go out. It stays lit. I did not try to cycle the key or look at the tach. I'll check both and report back.
put the key in and turn to ON, but not crank or run... The THEFT light will come on for 3 seconds, then go out.. IF not, the KEY is not being recognized as the PATS key...
My first thought was no fuel.. Have you ever checked or replaced the Fuel Pump Module ? They are known to fail.
Hello everyone and thanks for all of the feedback.
Okay. I finally had the opportunity to go back and check the tach & cycle the key. The tach does move, ever so slightly, but it does move. Cycling the key does not solve anything. I checked the theft light as suggested, and it goes out after a second or two. The truck has a full tank. As a matter of fact, I filled it full the night before, so that is not an issue.
I have not had the opportunity yet to check the fuel module video. Is there a way to test the module?
Where is the crank sensor located and is there a way to test it?
Fuel module is a visual inspection. Mounted with two bolts.. take them off and look at the back of the module. Does your scanner tell you the fuel pressure in the rail ?

I finally had the opportunity to review the attached video. Looks really easy. I'll take a look in a day or two. To much on my plate at the moment and won't be able to get to it. I don't know if the Edge can tell me about fuel pressure or not. I'll take a look. This is the first time that I've ever even used the scanner funtionality of the tuner.
The truck just turned 11 last month, and with the type of weather I have, I'm surprised that this item hasn't failed years ago.
Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll be able to get this resolved with everyone's help.
This has been solved. It was the Fuel Pump Driver Module.
I finally had the opportunity to look at it today. At first glance, it looked fine, but I removed it and decided to give it a tap on the cement and the back crumbled. Guess it was bad after all. Ran to the parts store, picked up a new one, and the truck fired on first try.
