Anyone know how to correct this? This is the only truck i've had that with the tailgate down it bounces up and down (severely) when in the down position. Is there a lock or something to keep it from bouncing? Thanks,
If you're truck has the tailgate step, it's significantly heavier towards the top of the tailgate, that weight gives more leverage in which I can see making it bounce more.
Do you drive around with the tailgate down a lot? That makes it much easier for thieves. These tailgates average about $1,000 to replace.

Mine stays up and locked as much as possible.
no its normally up but when i'm carrying a load thats too long i have it down but it bounces terribly. Yes i do have the step system. I will keep it locked from now on for sure.
I've never had any problems like this, but you may consider hose clamps on the hinge with some rubber squeezed in between to provide some resistance on the tailgate itself. That may give you enough to keep it from hopping on you.
i would rather not have the spring then. What a dumb idea. If i'm not strong enough to lift a tailgate then just put me in a retirement home and be done with it. Come on Ford seriously......
There is a HUGE difference between the way the tailgate feels compared to the previous models I have seen.
I remember a friend, who's also an FTE member, who has an '05 F350. When I last met him in OH we had his tailgate open for a minute. When I closed it the gate felt MUCH heavier than my '08's.

I don't see any linkage between the tailgate and the bed except the hinge.
On my F150 there was a tab on the tailgate that hooked the torsion bars mounted on the bed.
I just figured they made the '08 gates a lot lighter. Anyway I'd think if you had a piece of wood that you put between the bottom of the gate and the bed it should wedge it enough to keep it from bouncing.
