I have a 1990 F-150 XLT 302 EFI auto trans. Would getting a new Ignition Module help out gas mileage, etc. If it will help out, what else will it help with? Thanks again.
The TFI takes the place of points & condenser in a regular dist. If it is working, it is working as well as it ever will. A new one will do nothing to increase performance or mileage if the old one was functional.
To increase mileage, check tire pressure, air filter, initial ignition timing, plug, rotor, cap & wire condition. Make sure your injectors are clean and do not leakdown. The fuel system should hold pressure overnight. If it doesn't, you MAY have leaky injector(s), or a leaky check valve or a leaky pressure regulator. Your choice. Also make sure that all vacuum lines are connected and don't have leaks. With an auto trans, make sure that the modulator is working, and the throttle pressure linkage is adjusted properly. If you have EGR, make sure that it is working properly. An engine that has ping is working against itself, and will get worse mileage than one with a functional EGR... So, all youse guys that plugged your EGR for better mileage might just have inserted toe into oral cavity.

p.s., get an egg, and tape it to the gas pedal. do not break.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Takes a metered amount of exhaust gas and lets it into the intake. Because it has already been thru one time, it basically cannot burn again, and is inert. It dilutes the mixure by some amount, and reduces the max temp inside the combustion chamber. With reduced max temp, you get less formation of NOx (oxides of nitrogen).. which the Feds and EPA want. Reduced temp also lowers the ping factor... what else do u want 2 no?
