Hooked the new (to me) F250 SD to our travel trailer today...a bit of a test-run to see how she will perform.
The closest *real* hill is about an hour from our place, so we took a casual drive down the highway to the Hope Slide...a 4-mile hill with 8% grade.
At the bottom, I stuck her in D and Tow/Haul mode and off we went.
It's going to take a while to get used to the higher revving gas engines........my old Powerstroke was on the verge of self-destruction at 3500 rpm, but this one just kept asking for more!
For my own sanity's sake, I held her at just above 3000 and we still managed 55 mph all the way to the top. This was with an empty truck and virtually nothing in the trailer, so it wasn't a real-life example.
Nonetheless.....me like....me like a lot! I tried a combination of D...D with T/H...M...all performed better than I expected. Why did I waste my money buying a Duramax POS?
A REAL test is coming up early in May...so I'll keep you posted with the results.
Ever since the 4.6/5.4s, Ford gas motors have been designed to rev. Peak torque on the 6.2 is between 4000-4700rpm, (red line on this chart) with a 6000 rpm red line. Looks like high 4K rpm is where the HP really comes in. Don't be afraid to put it to the wood!
