fitting header questions

fitting header questions
I've looked in the summit magizine and jegs and also jcwhitney. for my 84, will a 86 and up header fit or do i have to find one listed for an 84?
does it matter if its 2wd or 4wd for a 2wd truck?
is there a real noticeable difference from a shorty header to a full length header? cause then i can just connect a shorty header to the stock system. the stock pipe is 2.25" from each manifold, combines into the first cat then exits 2.5" into the second cat then back to 2.25" to the muffler.
how are the summit mufflers, im not going for a heavy sound but more than stock?

let me rephase..
what years will interchange with an 84 351w?
does it matter between 2wd and 4wd?
i'll most likely get shorties so it connects to the original system, summit has their own 50 state legal ones but says its for 86 and up.
how are their mufflers, louder than stock i hope?
