Windshield Washer Pump not working / intermittently
Hey guys... so the windshield washer pump is not working now and then... I pulled the washer fluid reservoir and pulled the pump off. Put 12 volts to it and no nothing... no buzzing - no pumping no nothing...
Got a new pump installed on the reservoir.... nothing... So, then i pulled the clam shell off the steering wheel and started messing with the wires.. She started pumping windshield washer fluid. Go figure!!
So in order to really narrow this down, I need to find the exact wire for the windshield washer pump. Anyone know the color code of that wire? I'm guessing it's bad or coming loose in the disconnect plug...
Love my truck ... but this is a stupid problem!! No thank you Ford!!
Wiggle the button around as you press it just to make sure it's not the problem. My Explorer has been wonky for years, just had to figure out how to hold it to make it work....'till it finally stopped working recently.
I don't have a wiring diagram available, but you might be able to identify the wire color coming from the switch in the arm, especially since you have the steering column cover off and seem to know how to use a multimeter.
I believe the arm and wires coming out if the arm should go to a connector in the column area, but could be wrong. Perhaps the connection is intermittent at the joint/connector.
On the 2001 diagram (multi function switch) I see the washer switch wire is LT BLU/Org and that wire goes to the GEM module. The ground portion of the switch is DK BLU but also goes to the GEM module.

I got a new multifunction stalk but that did not fix the problem. Must be a loose or bad wire in the wire harness. Can I get a new wire harness for that part of the truck?

I see you are still having issues with the washer pump not working. Based on your question in this linked thread I assume you are trying to track down what is going on with the wiring. Have you been able to confirm there is power at the washer pump when the multi-function switch is activated. Have you been able to confirm there is ground at the pump connector when the multi-function switch is activated?
I can work on getting you the diagrams you are in need of, but first we need to look at the basics. I am not very good at navigating through the Ford service manuals yet, but with the help of some of the FTE'rs I am getting better.
