Rear axle

Is the rear axle the same in a 1996 E150 as a 1996 F150?
Thanks.

I had searched this up before and found that it is not the same, it all has to do with the width of the axle. The E series has a wider axle compared to the F series.

Not the same. Not only the width but the differential is offset differently than the F series. The internals are the same in the differential. Axles are different lengths.

Baddad that is interesting, the E-series van frame is wider which means the spring perches are further apart and that alone means the axle isn't a direct bolt-in for an F150, but a different diff offset would further complicate things too meaning a guy couldn't simply cut and weld the perches back on.

Here is an E350 rear axle assembly.
You can see how the differential is offset to the passenger side. Notice the difference in the length of the axle tube on either side between the inner U-bolts and the differential housing.

off set diff from a DRW van

Explorer rears were like this too as were the Rangers.
