This may have been true at one time (and maybe since yours is a '99 it would still apply, I went pretty much from an '86 to an '06), but nowadays they are pretty tight on specs with little to no room for tinkering. Intake (at least for the modern diesels) really didn't need tinkering with compared to stock unless there was some moderate to heavy modding. Exhaust, I mainly considered an aesthetic mod more then an HP mod.

When I was a Ford automatic transmission engineer from 1988-2007 we didn't reserve capacity specifically for tinkerers. We did have a margin of safety in our designs. If you increase the engine power you cut into that margin of safety, and that can decrease the life of the transmission.

Anything that raises the engine power reduces the life of the transmission. No tuner can change that, unless that tuner also rebuilds the transmission with stronger parts.

Bottom line: If you increase the engine power the transmission won't last as long.

If the tuner changed the shift points and increases line pressure along with unleashing a few more ponies SAFELY. Would that be the same thing as if the tuner was just releasing horse power. Or would it still decrease the trans life??

More torque through the transmission reduces it's life. If the engine makes more torque you get less life out of the trans, unless you replace parts in the trans with stronger ones. More pressure doesn't make the trans stronger, but it does reduce slip times, which isn't a bad thing. It just isn't everything.

It would be nice if I could change shift points and add a little more pressure for towing but that's about all I think that needs to be done. I don't think anything would help 11mpg on a v10. So I'd be happy with a program like that. If I go into the edge program on the custom tune description is it possible to adjust just these things

Why do you want more pressure for towing? What would you gain from that?

i found my edge tuner its a evo/ht version i updated it and still works so i think i'm gonna see if it will let me do anything with it as in custom tune the tranny to see what it can do any suggestions ??? also they customer support said that it would work on my truck with the preset tunes i choose but when i asked if it would mess with trans mission the only thing they said is shouldn't but gave me no specifics.

they did recommend that i use 91 octane in the truck if i wanted to tow. but if i wanted to spend more on fuel i would never get to go anywhere
