I have a 2016 F250 Crew cab/short bed 6.7L. I want to tow a car trailer that does not allow for a weight-distributing set-up. The trailer, loaded, will be just under 10k lbs and tongue weight of right around 1k lbs. My current hitch won't handle that (2..5", 850lb max tongue weight) so I need to upgrade. My question - and i can't seem to find this - is if I put a very heavy-duty hitch on the truck (looking at a 2700lb capacity hitch), what's the max tongue weight the suspension will handle? The hitch company says 1,400 lbs.
I have the specs from Ford Fleet that show 14k max towing and 1,400 max tongue weight, but that's for a weight-distributing set-up. Help.
The car trailer is a v-nose - there isn't room in the front to mount the hardware on the trailer frame needed for the bars. Weight-distributing would be ideal and I'd go that route if I could.
I tow 14K quite a bit with my 2014 F250. I dont have airbags. Without my wdh, I squat a little bit. Wdh makes it much better, but I've towed thousands of miles without it.
Btw, your setup looks like it would have about the same tounge weight as my 14K even though you are lighter, because your set up looks like more weight forward than mine. So thought here is that its doable without wdh, but not ideal. If you're going to be doing this often and long distances, maybe consider airbags if you feel you are squatting too much.
