So I recently had a soft pedal problem and I ended up flushing the brake fluid and power steering fluid. Don't think it really helped so I read up in trying to enable the abs system would help remove air in the lines. So I went to try to enable my abs system and was able to lock up the wheels. And the abs light never came on. If I'm not mistaken the abs light should come on. Does that mean my abs system could be faulty? Truck has 101,000 miles.
Hmmmm… yeah if ya stomp on the brakes the ABS should engage, at least in the rear.
Kinda fun really. Which is a major reason why I'm lucky to get 40k on my tires, Y2K.
So here's a bunch of questions... Do the brakes still feel soft? Check engine light on? Any blown fuses? What year? What exactly did you use for brake and PS fluid?
The abs light doesn’t come on when activated, only when there’s an error.
The best condition to feel the abs buzzing/working is when it’s slippery (like snow or mud or wet road). I don’t think i’v Ever felt it in a hard brake on a dry road.

The ABS engages, just always thought when it does the ABS light will come on. Guess I am mistaken as the poster below confirmed it. Light only comes on when loss of traction, etc. They feel softer than when I got the truck at 68k miles. It now has 101k miles on it. I purchased it from my dad and he put new tires and brakes on it at 65k miles. No check engine light. No blown fuses. 2003. I used Prestone DOT 3 Synthetic. I used a vacuum to bleed the brakes. Went through 1 large bottle and 1 small bottle. I replaced the PS fluid with STP Mercron V ATF. I did the "how to" from youtube. Was pretty easy to replace the fluid with the tube clear tube attached, etc.

Makes sense. For some reason I always thought the light comes on when slamming on brakes. I do know it will come on if you lose traction, hit a huge bump, etc.
Mine's been on for over two years ever since replacing the front rotors with new ones which have the reluctor rings set too far away from the sensors.
When the light is on, brakes work fine, but ABS will not engage while light is on.
the abs light in my 2006 F350 sometimes will be on, but eventually turns off; no rhyme or reason. It’s just a plow truck, so I don’t use it a whole lot. I checked the code and I think it was one if the rear wheel sensors, so I haven’t bothered to fix it.
The abs does still kick on though. It doesn’t do it often enough to remember if it does it while the abs light is lit up though.
When the ABS light is on, the ABS feature is OFF because the light is a result of a signal error, and that error will not allow the ABS module to engage. Your regular brakes will still work as they should, just without the ABS intervention to prevent locking up.
