EVAP Control System Canister Purge Valve (Mechanical) Malfunction
Monitors the fuel vapor flow between the engine intake manifold and the EVAP canister. The system failure occurs when a leak or blockage between the intake manifold, the EVAP canister purge valve and the EVAP canister is detected by the PCM.
Is it a 2.3L? I just ordered part F57Z-9C987-AB online, which is Canister Purge Solenoid/Flow Sensor Assembly for a 2.3L, so it has both parts. Found that info on this thread.
It was the valve and sensor. It cost about $95. The hoses were cracking pretty bad. Hooked it up, and unplugged the battery. Gave it back power and no more check engine light. Thanks.

anyone know what site has this part?
ok i intalled a new f57z 9c987 ab... should the light go off right away? or will it have to cycle.. i've heard something like it might need to have 11 engine cycles before the computers resets? what happend with yours?
I disconnected the battery then turned on the headlights, to spend and built up charge still in the system. Then hook back up the battery and no more light.
Same thing is happening to me. The dealer here in Raleigh wants $170 for the Canister Purge Solenoid/Flow Sensor Assenbly. WOW!. Last year I had the same problem and solved it by cleaning the Sensor w/ WD-40. Now I'm having the same P1443 code so I pulled out the entire assembly because I damaged the Sensor pin where it connects to the hose. I think I can fix the damage but before I go through the trouble is there any way to tell if the Purge Solenoid is faulty. I tried to blow air though it but could not. Oh. And smelling gas in the engine compartment.
