Locker and trans Q?
- Locker and trans Q?I've got a 93 bronco that is completely stock with a E40D (that shifts late from 2nd to 3rd when warm and also seems to double downshift then go back up to the right gear up hills when warm) and a 351w besides a 3" exhaust. I don't do any crazy off roading, just playing in the sand and then nasty logging roads during hunting season that very from mud, snow, gravel and some nasty puddles. I occasionally pull out logs and crawl off the logging roads in some places, but generally avoid going into crap that I shouldnt go into without a winch (which i have). This truck is also my daily driver around town and too and from work, i take the car for anything more than an hour and a half away usually. I was wondering what i could do to help the transmission issue, local buddy who owns an auto shop seems to think just flushing the tranny (170k and i doubt the trans has ever been flushed) should fix it, i already replace the tps and vss myself, and that didnt help any. Did the koeo koer test and computer thinks its fine. Just wondering if the flush will actually help? Or if i should start searching for a new trans? I have a 89 or 90 bronco coming for a parts truck but doubt that much will transfer over because of year gap. And then finally, i want to put in a rear locker, mostly just to make it easier to get out of some sand and the bit of mud i may go through, as well crawling up steep mountain logging roads that are covered in dead leaves during hunting season. Ive thought about an aussie, detroit, truetrac and e locker (want electric if selectable). I start work again the 1st ( just got out of the army) so ive got a little while to decide on which locker and/or LSD. But cant seem to decide. I'm sure if/when i get a locker I'll end up playing off road a bit more here and there. I've spent the last few weeks stalking this group on my phone, usually come up with the same threads over and over, just now decided to become a member. Thanks ahead of time for reading and any help or advice.
What size tires are you running currently? Have you checked on the rear diff tag or on the door jam sticker to see if you have an LS already? if you have an open diff then a drop in locker like mentioned above would help. If you are set on a selectable locker the Elocker acts like an LS when not engaged so you get the best of both worlds in that regard.
Also it doesnt hurt to air down when your out in the sand/brush. I ran with open diffs for years, but i also ran tires at 10-15lbs depending on the terrain. made a huge difference in traction.
