Yeah, I have heard of Beowulf rifles, they got a special caliber and everything, .500 Beowulf. They have pretty good ballistics, but with the .500 S&W coming out, I don't think the low scale production is goid to sell.

I can relate to your story, I was raised in this environment and quite frankly if I cannot get a man to come of his price I won't pay, if its a good deal or not no matter what it is. My wife thought I was crazy thinking like that yet when I got a better deal on new furniture and not to mention other items it wasn't too silly then. As I was told it never hurts to ask.

That is how my family operate their business, there are no secrets but you always get the fellows who come in and say well I can get it cheaper at wal-mart or whereever, then couple of days later come in and buy it. If you were in the business your aware of that one. And you also know that the money is made on trade in's. Later
best deal I ever got on a gun was at Academy sports in Texas. It was a Remington 870 .12 gauge Super-Mag (synthectic). Walmart's price varied between $290-305. I paid $250 plus they threw in a nice 2-rifle hard-shell gun case that normaly sold for $70. I needed a case anyway so in a sense I paid around $180 for a $300 shotgun.

Honestly, an AR-15 does not have a decently designed stock for heavy recoil, I don't think the lower receiver is strong enough to handle all that recoil either.
If I have the money for a .50 caliber weapon, I will buy one that was originally designed for a .50 caliber.
im sure you can find a Model Seven Youth for less then $500 in 7mm-08.
if not the savage is a good buy.
look at all the websites. take atleast 100 or so off from the msrp. my first rifle was a marlin 336 30/30 which was perfectly sized and shoots great. good luck. also, let him pick what he is comfortable with also, otherwise he wont enjoy it.
