IIRC the early years (I forget the cutoff year) the sealant used on the injector cups will melt away with the ELC. So research is needed.
Have not checked recently but the cost of ELC was like 2X that of green or gold. Even if it runs 600k your water pump won't, so replacing it is pricey.
All that said I might switch to ELC when this water pump dies. Mine came with gold coolant so the switch is easier. Green coolant requires pretty rigorous flushing since they don't mix well. There are some really good threads on this subject by way more edumacated folks than me.
I wish I could switch to the red stuff but mine is the earlier one so I'm not going to play with that fire. If the injector cups are replaced with the updated sealant I think I read it is okay to switch then if wanted, but that is not a job I would mess with unless it was absolutely necessary.
my truck was a couple inches low on coolant for some time; yesterday I brought it up to the full when cold mark. Yesterday I drove about 200 towing something miles I just looked at the truck and it dropped a 3-5 mm from the full when cold mark. Coolant appears good, oil cooler was rebuilt 4 years ago for PM, does not appear to be any coolant leaks, or coolant in the oil. The Truck is also operating as usual. Could there be coolant evaporating because my cap is bad?
Thank You
It could be something as simple as an old cap not holding pressure. If you get the engine up to full operating temp and don't hear the loud hiss of pressurized air escaping when you start to twist the cap off, that is a clue it is bad.
I personally wouldn't spend that much on one those tanks. You can get a new OEM one for around $50 I think and they are easier to see the level or any oil or fuel contamination.

It is a phenomenon that most of us have noticed but I don't think any of us have figured out. Mine also seems to find it's happy place a little below the minimum cold fill line. I've never had a cooling issue and never found where it could be going. Over the years I've replaced the degas bottle, cap, hoses, water pump, and injector cups and still have the "issue". It's just one of those things that I stopped worrying about until it shows up on the ground or in my oil.
I ordered up a new Ford cap put it on coolant is dripping onto the front axle. It also appears to be leaking onto the two grounds I recently re-did the oil cooler about 6 to 8 months ago . I’m going to use a boroscope later and then start
My e'99 has been doing the same thing too for the past year. I replaced the wp because it needed one. seemed to be fine for awhile. For the past 6 mos. been noticing small leak in the driveway but the level seemed ok. At the same time did new fan & clutch, hoses, Dorman degas bottle & cap. I have had to add a little every couple of wks to bring it up to proper level. The other day I was at the store & came out to see it dripping underneath on the front pass. side. I opened the hood everything on the upper eng. was soaked toward the pass. side. I highly suspect a seam on the de gas bottle.
