I am height challenged. Stepping up into the back of the pickup is a royal pain, especially when the travel trailer is attached.
What experience, if any, do you guys and gals have with the aftermarket bed steps, such as the one from AMP Research? While it looks like crud, I do like the step the bow-tie drivers have on some of their rear bumpers.
I have the AMP Research and it works great. It can be used with the tailgate up or down and even if you have a trailer attached, unlike the factory step. After a while you won't even notice it. The Chevy bumper looks good, but you nearly have to step all the way to the bumper anyway. The AMP comes just low enough and then tucks away.
Thanks for the response.
I have only ran across two of the "stowable" steps - one from AMP Research and the other from Bestop. That latter is about $40 cheaper. I noticed Ford sells their bed side steps that fit front of the rear tires for about $300.
We have the side steps and they are really great. We use them all the time. The only bad thing about them is that they won't help you back at the tailgate. and.. I am not particularly height challenged (I'm almost 6' 2"), and I also find getting in/out at the tailgate not particularly easy. My SO, who is 5' 4" on a good day really can not get in or out at all without some sort of assistance.
I am wondering if it matters if your have one of those bumpers that doesn't protrude much. Mine doesn't stick out. It's more integrated. Just wondering if the steps would stick out more on that type of bumper when stowed.
