Side and rear steps

I've seen a few mentioned here, but am wondering:

AMP Research Bed Step?

AMP Research Bed Step 2, side mounted?

Bestop TrekStep Tailgate step? (similar, but cheaper than AMP)

Ford's side steps for behind the cab. L, R, expensive at $325 each?

Anyone have one or more of these?

Hate/Love/Warning/Encouragement sought.

2017 SCAB 6.5' bed.

I have the Ford factory side steps and they are very handy. I am 6 ft tall and can barely touch the bottom of the bed while standing on the ground. They work great axcept when they freeze up in the winter.

+1. We have the pop-out factory side steps, and they are great. Didn't get the tailgate step as it looked too rinky-dink.

I have considered getting the pop-out step that goes on the corner by the tailgate. That would make getting in/out of the box a whole lot easier. Just not sure if it will be strong enough.

I might look at it again. Any idea what it would run as a retrofit? I would want to go to a dealer to try it out.

A friend has an AMP step that pops out under the side of the rear bumper. Seems strong enough. The other brand looks the same in the pictures (don't they always) but is quite a bit less money.

I think I'm going to pop for a side step or two, and watch here about the retrofit of the Ford item. I'll see if my friendly Ford dealer has those available and at what cost.

Thanks for the updates!

Update II: The tailgate step would require an entire gate swap. Seems the shell is different w/ or w/o the step. I found multiple discussions on another forum.

I have the factory side steps and the tailgate step, I use both frequently, they very well. If were to purchase an aftermarket step, I would go with AMP research, they have very well made products.

I would think a complete replacement tailgate. Quite expensive. I doubt it is an insert. Worth checking into I suppose.

I have the factory side steps, but have only used them about 3 times in the past 11 months. And the sidesteps are heavy. But you can remove them if need be. The tailgate step I had on my previous super duty and now this truck. I use it almost daily. I do like the new step better. The handle is out of the way, and works very well.

Does anybody have any experience with the Trek Step AND the Amp Research Bed step? Wanting to get the Trek step because of the price, and looking them up, they look the same and both are made of aluminum. Just wondering why Amp is $100 more money.

More than likely the price difference is engineering and marketing.

Both might be made out of aluminum but more than likely, one copied said step from the other and at the same time, they added their own twist to it to make it unique to their name or brand. Or, what some brands do is contract another brand to make the same item but with their name on it. Very common and has been done for many years now on many products.
