Hi, 2002 excur. failed theft attempt. They broke the ignition cover, it still accept a key and allows key start attempt. They also stole battery, cutting the double red cables at the terminal and cut the two ground cables. I spliced both the red cables to a new terminal and both of the ground cables to a new terminal. So the engine rolls but won't fire. I pulled the filter off and sprayed starter fluid and it fires for a couple of strokes, then dies. Sooo….. it doesn't seem to be getting fuel... I pulled the filter snorkel and noted that the butterfly valves are not opening when I am trying to start it. Is it possible that the damage to the ignition, breaking off the plastic cover or cutting of the batter cables, has disabled the truck in some manner. Or should I start stepping through my fuel system and checking the flow from the tank, filter etc?
Maybe the inertia switch was tripped somehow. That would disable the fuel pump. Try resetting that first. Hopefully the act of cutting those cables didn't short out any major components, like the computer...
May have damaged the PATS transceiver ring or its wiring that "reads" the key.
When you try to start it does the "theft" light in the gauge cluster blink rapidly?
