Hi all,
New 2015 Powerstroke owner here and trying to get ready to do my first service.
It seems Ford has come up with new criteria (WSS-M2C171-F1) that oils must meet for these engines.
I used to use T6 in my Cummins but it now has a CK4 in the starburst which Ford doesn't like.
Does anyone know if T6 meets the Ford requirements?
Cheers
Hi again, Shell Tech Support supplied me with Tech Data Sheets for T6, T5 and T4. They all make the cut for those interested in using these products. I attached the T6 version. as that's my oil of choice for the past bunch of years.
Cheers
Wrong list here. This one is from 2017. Latest list of approved oils is from November 2018, and T6 5w40 is on it. Ford site for latest list is currently down.
Thanks for the links.
Yes T6 is on the list..
Thank god cause I have a stockpile from the Ram Cummins days and that's the last time I say Ram or Cummins. She's all Ford and Powerstroke from here on in!
Must also say, in my short time on the site its been very positive. Cheers all!
Like most of the oils, Ford had to run tests or review tests from the oil companies on their oils to see if it met the wear requirements of the valve train.
For a while T6 wasn’t on the list. What got it back on, formulation change or requirement change?
Around August 2016, T6 5w40 significantly dropped its ZDDP antiwear additives below 1000 ppm when CK4 came out. Ford would not approve this weaker oil. So T6 5w40 in the middle of 2017 increased its P and Zn (ZDDP) back up to above 1000 ppm, and Ford then put it on the F1 approved list. So, yes a formulation change. There's more to the story, but this is the short version.
Thanks for the oil links. Had my first and last oil change done by my local dealer. Next day oil dripping down the filer. To say the least I'm disappointed. Dealer says bring it back and they'll resolve the problem.
Haven't changed my own oil in 15-20 years, that will change. I won't need to spend 160.00 for someone to do a **** poor job again.
Sorry for the rant.

There's always some oil that stays at the top of the filter after a change. A little drip or 2 is fine. Worry when it's a significant amount. Like several drips and even a drop or 2 on the ground. It's completely normal though to see a line or 2 of oil going down the filter after a change.

There's been a fair amount of people that have had issues from dealer work on simple things. If you want to make sure your trock is not over or under filled etc., at 66 years I do my own 100% of the time & use full synthetic & replace my by-pass oil filter too for less than dealer. It's too easy to do yourself.
Thanks for the links.

Welcome to the forum and to Ford. Glad to hear we have a new convert.
I have some Motorcraft 10w30 left so for my upcoming next change, I'm going with it. I only daily drive my ride for now, but when I have a plow and camper, T6 5w40 is on my list. Check out Amazon for good prices and free shipping with Prime. I've always been a fan of synthetic oil. Time to start running it. ✌

Does the T6 have the CK-4 designation on it? If so, is it their newer recipe of T6 or the older version that Ford didn't like? I don't know if you have a problem or not or how you would even tell. If it does have the new Ford approval on the label then I would say you're good to go.
If it only says CJ-4 then I think you're OK. Ford had a problem with the early formulation of CK-4. For a while, guys were snapping up all the CJ-4 they could find.

I believe the bottles of T6 CK4 I saw at Wally World had the Ford spec on them. I'll have to take a pic and post it up if someone doesn't beat me to it.
